A Dynamic partnership

This work explains the dynamics of Canada's newly found interest in the Western Hemisphere as a region of growing opportunities, challenges, and responsibilities. Ongoing NAFTA negotiations demonstrate its commitment to hemispheric development and exploration of expanded trade relations.

Since becoming an OAS member in 1990, Canada has flexed its regional political muscle through its leading role in the OAS and UN-mediated Salvadoran Peace Plan. Canada's contribution to the political evolution of the Americas lies in projecting the values - democracy, tolerance, social awareness, and new-world adaptability - that have permitted it to prosper alongside a superpower while balancing the demands of Its French, English, and increasingly vocal aboriginal peoples.
