Public History

Public History: A Textbook of Practice provides a survey of the public historian's work and coverage of the applied methodologies used by public historians. Relying on this framework, instructors and practitioners may then branch out to the diverse and complex literature of the various fields involved in the profession. This well-rounded approach is presented in three parts: Part One discusses the history of public history and the ways in which the field has developed over time; Part Two focuses on the approaches that are the core elements of practice; and Part Three introduces the reader to some of the issues that distinguish public practice from teaching in universities. Two of the keys themes developed in the book include the international dimension and the presentation of digital tools for public historians and public history teaching.
