"Handsome companion catalog to the exhibition with the same title held at the Fundación Santillana (Madrid, 1993). Brief, informative text traces history of silver mining and silver-smithing in viceregal Mexico and Peru, with special reference to Cerro de Potosí in Bolivia. The catalog itself, divided into two sections - 'platería religiosa' and 'platería civil' - describes each of the silver works with basic information concerning their provenance, dimensions, and present location. Works from public and private collections in Peru, Argentina, Uruguay, Colombia, and Bolivia are well represented. Several fine quality color photographs permit a good appreciation of the works.
