As his secretary, she'd sent too many flowers to his mistresses on too many "mornings after" not to know what he was really like. And as a woman with a private grief she had no time for romance.

So when Jared suggested she pretend to be his fiancee to save him from a marriage he did not want, she was in no danger of falling in love with him.
