Description
Frederick King Weyerhaeuser, eldest male of the Weyerhaeuser lumbering family's third generation, may not have matched his grandfather Frederick in fame or power, but among the progeny none was more widely known and respected - and, within the family, loved - than he was. How his talents and dedication helped make the Weyerhaeuser name synonymous with the lumbering industry and the clan one of the closest knit in the country is the focus of this book. While his brother, Phil, ran the Weyerhaeuser Timber Company in the Pacific Northwest, F.K. remained in St. Paul and took responsibility for the Weyerhaeuser Sales Company over three decades beginning in the 1930s. Along with marketing Weyerhaeuser's products and ensuring a demand for them, F.K. gradually took on more responsibilities that came with doing big business in the post-New Deal era, chief among them public relations. This is an intimate, detailed story of F.K. the businessman and patriarch and the life he led with his wife, Vivian O'Gara Weyerhaeuser, and their two daughters on St. Paul's Summit Avenue. It is also the third volume in Charles Twining's biographical history of today's Weyerhaeuser Company.
