Description
The author comes from a middle class family in Potsdam. But early on, she joined the Communist Party enthusiastically. With her second husband, one of the leaders of the Communist Party, she emigrated in 1933 first to Spain and then to Moscow. In the mills of Stalinism she learns the disillusionment of their communist ideals and finally must watch as her husband was arrested by the Soviet police state. A contemporary document of the early 20th century and the Communist movement from the perspective of an extraordinary woman whose humane and democratic attitude runs like a thread through her memories.
