The book deals with the socio-cultural background under which the modernist spirit in Peru is made its way and the influence exerted by the Agrupación Espacio and the Galería de Lima in the creation of the IAC. The authors research throughout the history of IAC (Instituto de Arte Contemporáneo) since its inauguration in 1955 in the rooms located in the Jirón Ocoña street in Lima, with Manuel Mujica Gallo as founding president, its transfer to the Casa Mujica and its installation in the environments of the Museo de Arte Italiano to the reunion of the IAC members in 1981 and the activities they developed with a view to creating the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo (MAC) in Lima. Also, this book is a recognition to all the people who made possible the operation of the IAC and to all those, who as members, artists or relatives, achieved the positioning of this institution in the art scene of Lima: Manuel Mujica Gallo Fernando de Szyszlo, Sebastián Salazar Bondy, Luis Miró Quesada Garland, Walter Gross, Elvira Luza, José María Arguedas, Juan Acha, Luis Carlos Rodrigo Mazuré, Eduardo Moll, Mahia Biblos, José Matos Mar, Carlos Rodríguez Saavedra, Elida Román, Frederick Cooper, George Gruenberg, among many others.
