Description
This book collects the hexaplaric signs preserved in Armenian manuscripts. The text critic Origen marked with asterisks and obeli the Septuagint text of his day words, phrases, passages, depending on whether he added them to equal the Hebrew in length (asterisks) or whether the Greek text had words, etc., not found in the Hebrew (obeli). Armenian manuscripts turn out to be one of our most important witnesses to the signs tradition, so important for textual criticism in the Septuagint: signs are preserved for some 1462 passages and, most importantly, uniquely in some 161 instances. Includes bibliography and indexes: biblical references, hexaplaric witnesses other than the Armenian, Armenian manuscripts, place names, personal names, subjects.
