During the late 1970s, a period of cencorship and severe social repression in Mongolia, a group of young writers and intellectuals came together, away from the gaze of the authorities, and gave themselves the name Gal, or "fire." This book, the first anthology of their writing to appear in any language, offers a glimpse into Mongolia's literary culture during this period, and reflects the group's stated intention to encourage each member to find their own voice, free from social, political or aesthetic control.
