Lectures on the history of Newfoundland, 1500-1830

This book contains a series of Matthews' lectures on different aspects Newfoundland history. All 30 lectures have the fishery as their theme - a reflection of Matthews' view that the fishery was central to the shaping of Newfoundland history. Topics of individual lectures include immigration, the effects of wars on the fishery, as well as how the fishery affected Newfoundland's development.
