Toni was an orphan who had spent her whole life in a Spanish convent and was destined to become a nun herself. But something told her that life held more than that for her, and she ran away — straight into the arms of Luque de Mayo. Nothing in her sheltered life had prepared her to deal with a man like this — dark, devilish, inscrutable, a man who used women as toys and cast them aside when he had had enough of them. Yet he treated Toni in a protective way, and indeed lost little time in calmly announcing that she had better marry him.
