Description
This book offers in-depth analysis of heavenly twin imagery in early Jewish apocalyptic texts, including several Jewish apocalypses which were preserved solely in the Slavonic language, such as the Ladder of Jacob and the Second (Slavonic) Enoch. The study demonstrates that heavenly twin traditions found in Jewish apocalyptic writings are rooted in the theophanic imagery of the Hebrew Bible, and it focuses on the traditions of heavenly doubles of famous biblical heroes such as Enoch, Moses, Jacob, Joseph, and Aseneth and the afterlife of these traditions in early Christian texts. Should not be confused with the author's The Greatest Mirror, published with SUNY, 2017; this book contains much new material and new arguments (compared with Greatest Mirror) based on recent studies of Russian scholars--Author.
