Description
The tale of a utopian voyage presented as the report of a long, real journey (1673-1682) made by Mr. S. van Doelvelt, a Dutchman in the service of the Dutch East India Company, who sets out in search of a Northeast Passage. During the expedition, he arrives at the island of Ajao located somewhere northeast of Japan. The island is inhabited by a population of virtuous atheists who live in complete social harmony in a democratic republic based on the principles of agricultural communism.
