The papal legate and the 'solemn' papal nuncio, 1243-1378

Kyer's doctoral dissertation at the University of Toronto looks at how the papacy created a new class of special nuncio to represent papal interests in countries like England and France at a time when the increasingly powerful monarchs in those countries would not accept the traditional and very powerful papal legate.
