Description
Love at first sight, caught on the rebound, whatever it was, young Henry Ormskirk - mild, kindly and unemployed - found that he had married the desirable Pia Paolomi almost before he had time to think about it and had landed himself a job in her mother's slick exclusive dress business. For Henry it was the beginning of a time of progressive misery which even an unexpected financial windfall didn't improve. But for Pia and her glamorous and sophisticated mother it had been an audacious and successful manœuvre. If Henry had been consistently weak or reliably strong all might have been well, but he vacillated from strength to weakness and as a result blundered further and further into a lethal situation which led finally to murder.

In this book, as in *Maiden's Prayer* and *You Can't Believe Your Eyes*, Joan Fleming has created lively characters and, with a light touch and humour, she involves them in situations which are as full of suspense and ingenuity as they are true to life.
