Music in ancient Israel

After many years still one of the very best references on the subject. While Sendrey's approach is thoroughly secular, his scholarship is comparative rather than ideological, and executed with intellectual integrity. Hence, it remains an outstanding resource for clergy and musicians of diverse faiths who are responsible for worship leadership.

Music in Ancient Israel is essentially a work of ethnomusicology, and while Sendrey avoids the overuse of esoteric language, readers lacking formal music education may want to keep a music dictionary handy, (or bookmark one on line).

Now, available in quality paperback binding for about $30.
