Description
The Pious Fund was established in Spain to support the Alta and Baja California missions. When Mexico became independent and the missions were being securlarized, it tried to claim the lands and assets, including the Pious Fund, of the missions. Carillo proposed that proceeds from the sale of the mission lands be used solely for the missions of California.
