Description
John Hanson (1715-1783) was born at Mulberry Grove, Charles County, Maryland, the son of Samuel Hanson (d. 1740) and grandson of Colonel John Hanson (1630-1713). He and his wife, Jane Contee, had eight children, 1744-1758?. The family moved to Frederick County, Maryland, in 1773. There he assumed a leadership in the events connected with the Revolutionary War. He was elected to the Continental Congress in 1779 and served as president of the Congress of the United States, 1781-1782. He died while visiting at nephew at Oxon Hill, Maryland, in 1783.
