Description
In the almost twenty years between the first Human Gene Mapping conference in 1973 and the first Chromosome Coordinating Meeting and subsequent editing of the Genome Data Base in 1992, the number of genes included in GDB reached 3,566. The enormous increase in the speed with which new genes are being sequenced and mapped is reflected in the fact that more genes were added in 1992 than in the previous three years. This trend has continued, with the addition of 795 genes in 1993.

Similar increases have occurred for PCR-formatted polymorphic markers. This compendium provides a listing of genes and markers on a chromosome-by-chromosome basis.
